Dr. Krish A. Prabhu, Ph.D. serves as a Venture Partner at Mobility Ventures. Dr. Prabhu is a telecom industry veteran with over 25 years of broad based achievements and experiences. Most recently he served as CEO and President of Tellabs since February 2004 and retiring in February 2008. During his tenure there, the company’s revenues doubled through the introduction of new product offerings in broadband access and mobility and through entry into new markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America. The company also pursued an aggressive share buyback program while improving its cash reserves.
Prior to joining Tellabs, Dr. Prabhu served a stint as a venture partner at Morgenthaler Ventures from 2001 until 2004. During this phase, he was involved with the funding and development of several startup companies. As an investing partner, he served on the boards of Catena, Westwave, Overture and Yotta.
Previously, Dr. Prabhu was with Alcatel and held many different positions. He served as chief operating officer of Alcatel from 1999-2001, as chief executive officer of Alcatel USA from 1997-1999, as executive vice president from 1995 to 1997 and as CTO of US operations from 1991 to 1995. He was a member of Alcatel’s executive committee from 1995 until his departure in 2001. In his various roles at Alcatel, Dr. Prabhu was instrumental in growing Alcatel’s presence in North America by penetrating new customers such as SBC, Bell South and Verizon, as well as expanding Alcatel’s presence with AT&T, Sprint and MCI. He led the acquisitions (and subsequent integration) of DSC and Newbridge, and Alcatel’s successful launch of DSL products.
From 1984 to 1991, Dr. Prabhu was with Rockwell International. He led a product development team of roughly 400 engineers, responsible for the introduction of digital cross-connects, microwave radio and Sonet transmission gear. He began his career in 1980 at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a member of the technical staff working on video compression algorithms. He left Bell Labs in 1984 to join Rockwell.
Dr. Prabhu holds a Master of Science degree in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
He currently serves on the boards of Adva, Altera and Tekelec. He also serves as a member of the Board of Visitors, School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh and as a life member of the Development Board of the University of Texas at Dallas.
